The Problem

Five prior attempts to replace their old process with a digital solution failed. I came onto the team with the 6th attempt over halfway done and only one screen had been built.

In six months we got the project back on schedule and delivered a fully user validated application.

Iconography system used for candidate state at-a-glance

Iconography & Color

We leveraged high contrast by shape and color to help users quickly identify the status of an application and prioritize their work accordingly.

Color was never used to describe status or state in isolation.

Filtering interface showing advanced and common filter placement

Smart Filtering

High-use filters positioned above task views for quick access; advanced filters for power users.

Actionable tables with inline task-specific controls

Actionable Tables

Inline actions or edits were reserved for high volume actions (such as having to enter scores from hand written documents) and quick decision making (the table had enough context to take certain actions with confidence).

Event Management

A team had to plan, perform, and record physical fitness testing events that happened multiple days a week across multiple locations.
