The Problem

Nationstar Mortgage had always struggled with technology. When they rebranded as Mr. Cooper, they elected to go all-in on a fully responsive web application for borrower mortgage management. The branding agency was behind on the branding concepts, leaving the development team at Pivotal Labs without even wireframes to begin with.

I had to move fast and keep 16 developers fed, while also:

  • Supporting 3 view ports
  • Performing regular user tests.
  • Developing a white-label theme.

Instead of traditional wireframes-to-visuals workflows, we added fidelity to features over time. Everything was always in a 'final' design state, but as tokens and styling were defined, the application was updated globally.

This allowed us to keep moving fast while still delivering a high quality experience by the end.
